Woodland

The coniferous woodland is an area of two parts, with a stream flowing down the centre of each.

On one side of the burn, where you can access and explore, the woodland is managed, with brashing (removing low branches) and clearing done to allow plenty of space.

On the other side of the burn, where we ask visitors not to explore, this area is left completely natural to run its own course.

By having these two halves, it means that there are two very different habitats available, one with lots of open space where birds can fly and larger mammals wander. In the other half, this is much more dense, with little space for larger mammals to wander and birds not able to fly.

While having a walk through the woodland, listen out for all the bird calls that you hear, before this area became brashed there were no bird calls.
